Rescue of eleven seafarers from m/v “Nikolai Bauman”

Alert from aboard of m/v “Nikolai Bauman” has been received by State Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre (SMRCC), Odessa, at 9.06 LT March 06, 2013.


At 9.54 SAR speedboat PRK-03 was launched towards the region of distress. Evacuation of eleven seafarers was started at 10.42 upon arrival to the scene. Weather conditions at the moment of operation – wind 14 meters per second, wave height 1,5 meters


At 13.25 rescuing operation was finished. All crew members of m/v “Nikolai Bauman” were delivered to Port Vilkovo by PRK-03. Medical help were not needed.


According to operational information: m/v “Nikolai Bauman” (“Sormovskiy” type, flag of Moldova, owner - «SVS – Management», crew 11 members) up-anchored on March 4 from Port Eregli (Turkey) to Port Kherson. Cargo 2716 tones of gypsum.


Flooding was discovered on March 5 evening. The crew has applied all possible damage control measures to pump out outboard water. The shipowner ordered to turn the vessel to safety place in Zhebrianskaya Bay. The captain took the decision to direct the vessel to the coast of Novaya Zemlya region (Starostambul'skoye Mouth of Danube River) for grounding.


In 1,5 miles away of Novaya Zemlya island the vessel went down. The crew abandoned the vessel on life boat
