Information Support Centre within Ministry of Infrastructure was opened by the State Enterprise “Marine Search and Rescue Service”. Opening of the new division was held on February 4, 2013.
Centre was established with the purpose of prompt informational backing for the national maritime SAR system functioning, as well as improvement of central power bodies and other authorities interaction concerned with the organisation and fulfilment of SAR operations.
Centre’s major task is to provide Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine and State Inspection of Ukraine on Safety at Sea and River Transport with the information on the situation of the national maritime SAR system and promptly advise them on the course of SAR operation being fulfilled.
Centre is equipped with a set of specialised modern technical facilities letting it to monitor the Black and Azov Sea surface circumstances. The equipment allows to define vessels’ position, course direction, and to trace their movements. The relevant software makes it possible to display a set of vessels’ data on the screen.
Technical capabilities of the new division permit in case of a distress information received to summon right in Centre a meeting concerning the organisation and resource securing of a SAR operation, get information on vessels in the distress area or moving in its direction, simulate the course of the operation, etc.
The opening ceremony was attended by Vice Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Dmytro Demydovych, Director of Department of State Policies in Sea and River Transport, Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, Volodymyr Sevryukov, and Vice Chairman of State Inspection of Ukraine on Safety at Sea and River Transport Mykola Sevyrin.
Vice Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Dmytro Demydovych underlined that Centre’s creation and launch into operation was a regular step toward the higher efficiency of the national maritime SAR system functioning, and wished Centre’s employees every success in their work.
