In the framework of performing its main functions, the State Enterprise "Marine Search and Rescue Service" is continually taking part in sessions of the special-purpose Sub-Committee of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), namely the Sub-Committee on Navigation, Communications and Search and Rescue sessions hold annually in February-March at IMO Headquarters and that is included into the IMO Maritime Safety Committee.
Taking measures concerning organization of search and rescue at sea and providing the safety of the human life at the high sea are main tasks of the SE "MSRS" that should be performed in accordance with the essential basic IMO Conventions, namely International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue 1979 (SAR) and International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea 1974 (SOLAS).
Taking into consideration the abovementioned, it is planned to have the mandatory Audit of the International Maritime Organization in Ukraine in June 2018. In the framework of the abovementioned audit it will be checked the compliance with international obligations by Ukraine, in particular as port State, flag State and coastal State.
For this reason, in order to pass the IMO Audit successfully, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine has established the Working Group that consists of representatives of specialized institutions, organizations and enterprises, including the State Enterprise "Marine Search and Rescue Service".
Experts of the SE "MSRS" continuously take part in weekly meetings on preparation to the IMO Audit that are chaired by the executives of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine and perform on time all the tasks subsequent to the results of these meetings. Currently, it a regulatory and legal framework regarding the competency of the SE "MSRS" is fully prepared, namely search and rescue at sea, functioning of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) and the Long-Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) system that will be obligatory inspected by the IMO Auditors.
Furthermore, employees of the SE "MSRS" take active part in the preparation of technical translations of basic IMO instruments (conventions and codes) and also pass advanced trainings on the preparation for the abovementioned audit by the Ukraine.
