On March 22nd the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan, conducting a working visit in Odessa visited rescue tug boat "Sapfir" of
State Enterprise "Marine Search and Rescue Service" of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine.
The Minister examined the vessel and learned about its technical characteristics, and visited not only the command bridge but also the "heart" of the vessel – the engine room.
"It is an ice-class vessel with unrestricted navigation area, capable to have the speed up to 10 knots. Its length is more than 50 m, draught 4,6 m with the crew of 22 members. "Sapfir" has the capability to stay in fully autonomous mode for about 20 days, which is crucial during conduction of SAR operations on a lang distance from the shore"- told the captain of "Sapfir" Pavlo Petkov.
"Sapfir" is a flagman of specialized fleet of SE "Marine Search and Rescue Service", capable to conduct SAR operations during the winter period, as well, in case of emergencies with cruise, passenger vessels and aircrafts. Modern equipment helps to cooperate and coordinate all the actions with all the coordination centers of other Black Sea countries", claimed the director of SE "MSRS" Viktor Sudarev. .
The Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan expressed his appreciation to the rescuers and noted, that cooperation is an essential notion for search and rescue. It means not only cooperation and coordination in conduction search and rescue with other entities and enterprises of Ukraine, but also to join the forces with foreign partners.
