On Saturday 19 October 2013 at about 15.00 LT the State Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (SMRCC) was informed by the Chief Directorate of the State Service of Ukraine on Emergencies (SSUE) for Zaporizhzhya Region that a fisherman Vasyl Bobyr, born in 1942, was washed up to the high seas in his wooden boat in the vicinity of the village Kulykivske near Berdyansk.
SMRCC started a comprehensive SAR mission in the Azov Sea: the speedboats PRK-02 and PRK-05 of the Maritime Search and Rescue Service were launched by alert from Kerch and Berdyansk further joined by the BG-900 patrol boat of the State Border Service, as well as the AN-32 airplane from SSUE and MI-8 helicopter from Ministry of Infrastructure took off alerted.
All the sea craft in the SAR mission area were properly briefed.
On Sunday 20 October 2013 at 14.30 LT the person in distress was spotted from the passing by m/v Sea Wind, flag of Comoros, which picked him up and handed over aboard the PRK-05 for further transportation to the port of Berdyansk where an ambulance car was waiting. The rescued was in satisfactory condition.
The SAR mission was over on 20 October 2013 at 16.10 LT.
